Would the installation of a dry-type transformer reduce the costs of associated fire detection and suppression systems on a commercial property?

Commercial properties sometimes require fire detection and suppression systems to mitigate the risk of fire. Due to their Class F1 rating for fire protection, dry-type transformers do not require such fire related systems. This can contribute to the lower cost of ownership of dry-type transformers, which also derives from less maintenance and proven reliability.

A Class F1 rating confirms that the unit is flame-retardant. In the event of the transformer being caught in a building fire, they will also not emit hazardous vapours. Conventional oil-cooled transformers are considered a higher fire risk due to the flammability of oil. Fire detection and suppression systems are therefore considered essential under most conditions.
