Dry-type transformers are frequently used outdoors. Under these conditions, their enclosures can be designed to keep out dust and moisture while optimising air flow. The design will ensure sufficient air movement to remove the heat caused by energy losses in the transformer.
Transformers and their enclosures can be designed to suit the most demanding outdoor application, including mining. They have even been installed in coal mining operations, where the dust is particularly fine and conductive.
These transformers are known to perform inherently well in areas of high pollution. What is essential is that the enclosures are adequately designed with the appropriate level of ingress protection (IP).
In addition to designing dry-type transformers to suit their load, Trafo Power Solutions also designs enclosures to match the application. This is done in accordance with IP ratings developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC), which grade the resistance of an enclosure against the intrusion of dust or liquids.
In conjunction with technology partner TMC, Trafo Power Solutions designs enclosures for any outdoor application – up to a rating of IP68. These designs come with the necessary certification.
