Research shows that electrical equipment – including transformers – are leading causes of fire across various industries. However, dry-type transformers have been shown to decrease this risk. They significantly reduce the risk of fire as they do not contain oil. They are also rated in Class F1 in terms of fire protection standards. This means that they will not cause fires under short circuit conditions, and are inherently fire resistant.
This reduced risk of fire allows dry-type transformers to be safely installed indoors, bringing many benefits to users. Among these is not having to bear construction costs for outdoor facilities for the transformer. Being closer to the load also requires less cable to the transformer, and allows the cost of the installation to be reduced.
